The Policy Department runs a wide variety of courses covering the following three key areas:

• Policy and Orientation,
• Arms Control
• Civil Military Cooperation and Civil Emergency Planning

The department therefore trains a broad spectrum of students from NATO nations and Partner countries providing current relevant and thought provoking education. Topics covered range from basic orientation courses, reviewing NATO processes and policy to more specific and detailed course covering operational subjects in a number of specialized areas, ranging from command and control to the legal intricacies of multinational operations and arms control. Training is conducted in such a way as to maximize student learning and retention of materials presented. Students leave with the information, contacts and wide ranging skills that they need to succeed in NATO's multinational environment.
